CDM Prayer Walk

It was an event planned by the Family Life Ministry at CDM to foster the habit of prayer within the community. A total of 206 participants registered in groups of families. Over 60 families turned up to the walk on the 11th May. The date was chosen as it was a public holiday and even with rain which threaten at the start of the walk and eventually did fall during the walk, this did not dampen the spirits of all those who completed this 3 km journey around the vicinity of CDM. They were each provided with a cap and flagged off at 8 am by Fr Martin Arlando, the parish priest of CDM, after a short opening prayer. They departed in two batches and were reminded to pray along the way. The Ministry of Hospitality provided security along the route. Some carried babies, others strolled slowly with young children in hand and older folks walked along with their walking sticks. The last couple to complete the walk with much applause from the crowd, was the chairperson of Living Springs who had to return to his parked car for his walking stick at the start of the event.

At the end of the walk, everyone was invited to a fund-raising breakfast by the Youth Ministry. It was a treat watching the large variety of food prepared and served by young people of the community as the people gathered for fellowship. The event culminated in a “Lucky Draw” in which there were over 30 prizes. This meant that at least half of the families went home with a prize. One member of the Family Life Ministry decided to auction off his prize to raise funds for the new building of the church. After much laughter and haggling, the bottle of perfume went to a generous gentleman as a perfect gift for his wife this coming Mother’s Day.

It was most encouraging to see the great sense of camaraderie among the cross section of parishioners, from young to old. Much credit went to the Family Ministry who obtained sponsors for the prizes and the great effort of the Youth feeding so many people so early in the morning. The next event planned by the Family Life Ministry is a Family movie night on the coming weekend. Free popcorn is will be given to early birds and it promises to be an exciting affair.
