Catholic Education Committee (CEC)

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, to profess faith without showing works? Such faith has no power to save you… So it is for faith without deeds: it is totally dead… So you see, a person is acknowledged by works and not by faith alone.
-James 2: 14, 17, 24.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We began 2016 with the Jubilee Year of Mercy as CDM is one of the three churches in the Penang Diocese to have been the granted the privilege of the installation the Holy Door of Mercy. In spite of the many activities leading up to the installation of this Holy Door of Mercy we have been able to successfully conduct all the 30 CEC classes on schedule, the CEC camps and related activities like First Holy Communion and Confirmation. This has been due to the unfailing support and guidance of our parish priest, Fr. Martin Arlando, parents, faith sharers, students and concerned parishioners. We sincerely thank all of them for making 2015 a memorial year. We also wish to thank all our faith sharers who have left us for their time and dedication to this ministry. May God bless them abundantly and may they continue to help CDM grow in other ways.

We welcome back our faith sharers and thank them for pledging their time and energy once again this year. We are also happy to announce that we have two new faith sharers to take the place of those who have left. We will continue to welcome anyone who wishes to join us especially at the secondary school level as we wish to have at least three teachers in each class preferably a lady and a gentleman to cater to both genders of students.

The faith sharers of the Children Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) are still part of CEC and we welcome their efforts in making the understanding of the liturgy more meaningful to young children during mass time. In doing so, we know that the parents who accompany their children in these sessions during mass, will also benefit by knowing how to relate to their children in their faith journey.

The faith sharers are asked to continue to recite a shortened form of the 3 pm Divine Mercy chaplet at the beginning of class in order to make our children more aware that they belong to the Church of Divine Mercy. This is to ensure that all our children are conscious of the special privilege we have to be under the care of His Divine Mercy, compassion and love especially in this Jubilee Year of Mercy.

In helping our faith sharers develop and improve their pedagogical skills in the classroom we need only to the Holy Father, Pope Francis. He has stressed that we teach with the head, heart and hands. In using culturally related personal testimonies of our faith experiences we can help our students understand that faith without action is meaningless. In this year of Mercy, we need to emphasize our actions in relation to the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Always remembering the slogan of “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful”(Luke 6:36).

With the grace and help of the Divine Mercy we are confident that we will be successful in carrying out all our planned activities to share and live our faith with the young parishioners of CDM.

Jesus, I trust in You.
